The Madness 2015 - Darkness: Week Four Recap

Well, 2015's MADNESS is over. For the final week of the competition, I revisited some old favorites, saw a lot of movies in the theater (my back pain can attest), and continued going through some other vampire-centric series.

For the previous weeks' recaps, you can GO HERE.

All of the below were watched over the past week... Scores (out of 5) for each title are included, along with points.

Television

No Television this week. I guess I don't watch much TV.

Assorted Movies

The Rocky Horror Picture Show (2.5/5)
I've never been big into this movie, but gave it another shot. I still like a few of the songs, but I don't get the love for it, overall. (100 min)
Points: 2 (Base) = 2 points

Idle Hands (4/5)
One of the best horror-comedies around, and a perfect Halloween-week watch. I saw it in the theater opening day (skipped school), and I wish more people had done the same. (92 min)
Points: 2 (Base) + 1 (Power Outage) = 3 points
Blade (3.5/5)
Another late-90s piece of fun. Holds up very well.  (120 min)
Points: 2 (Base) + ATB (Death By Sunlight) =  6 points

Blade II (4/5)
Better than the first one. Del Toro makes this one darker while somehow also making it feel lighter with the humor. Great film. (117 min)
Points: 2 (Base) + ATB (Death by Sunlight) =  6 points

Blade: Trinity (2.5/5)
I want to love this movie, but the fight scenes are terrible, and Wesley Snipes just looks grumpy the whole time. Also, bro'd out Dracula who's in the yogurt commercials these days just seems goofy. Why is this over 2 hours? (123 min)
Points: 2 (Base) + ATB (Death by Sunlight) =  6 points

Goodnight Mommy (4/5)
Holy shit. This movie is DARRRRRRK. I seriously squirmed in my seat and felt sick during the final act. And people walked out of the theater. Makes you want to give your kids to someone else. (100 min)
Points: 2 (Base) + 1 (Cave Tomb) =  3 points
Shivers (3.5/5)
Cronenberg's first GOOD feature. It's been about 15 years since I last watched it, and it's better than I remembered. Some great nasty moments and sick humor. (87 min)
Points: 2 (Base) + 1 (Power Outage) = 3 points
Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse (4/5)
This movie looked pretty bad, but I kind of loved it. Super fun, with some surprisingly great gore and lots of laughs. And lots of zombie boobs. (93 min)
Points: 2 (Base) + 1 (Power Outage) = 3 points
Fright Night 2011 (3.5/5)
People can hate on this all they want, but I think it's fun. Its biggest problem is that it's called FRIGHT NIGHT. (106 min)
Points: 2 (Base) + ATB (Death By Sunlight) = 6 points
Fright Night 2: The New Blood (2/5)
Confusing because it's basically ANOTHER remake of the first film; only set in Romania with a lady vampire and Peter Vincent is only in it for like 5 minutes. Again, might have been an OKAY movie if they had just taken their idea and not forced it into the FRIGHT NIGHT storyline/characters. Watchable, but not good. (99 min)
Points: 2 (Base) + ATB (Death By Sunlight) = 6 points
FRIGHT NIGHT '85 (5/5)
Brilliant. Still holds up wonderfully. This viewing was a 35mm print and ended at midnight Halloween Day with a live Skype Q&A with Tom Holland. BEST DAY BEFORE HALLOWEEN EVER. (106 min)
Points: 2 (Base) + ATB (Death By Sunlight) = 6 points

Attack The Block (5/5)
One of my absolute favorite movies of the last 5 years. Pretty much perfect. (88 min)
Points: 2 (Base) + ATB (per Head Hauntress) = 6 points
The Nightmare Before Christmas (5/5)
You know it. You should love it. (76 min)
Points: 2 (Base) + ATB (Sally willingly enters underground cave where Oogie Boogie is to try and save Santa) = 6 points
Trick R Treat (5/5)
A masterpiece. And the film that I ALWAYS watch at the end of Halloween night. (82 min)
Points: 2 (Base) + 1 (Werewolves only come out at night) + 1 (Power Outage) = 4 points

Total Points For Week Four
