The Madness 2015 - Darkness: Week Two Recap

We are now two weeks into 2015's MADNESS. That's half-way. For a recap of the first week, you can GO HERE.

All of the below were watched over the past week... Scores (out of 5) for each title are included, along with points.

The Walking Dead - Season 6 Episode 1 (3.5/5)
This year's premier wasn't as good as the last couple years' have been, but it was still good. It was also 30 min longer than most episodes. I'll keep watching, of course, but I'm not fully hooked at the moment. (90 min)
Points: 1 (Base) + .5 (90 min air time) = 1.5 points

Assorted Movies

Fright Night: Part 2 (3/5)
I love the first film, but have always thought the sequel was junk. I re-watched it anyway, and surprisingly, I had a LOT more fun with it this time. It's not great, but it's silly (VAMPIRE BOWLING, ANYONE?), and maybe that's what I needed. (104 min)
Points: 2 (Base) + ATB (Death by Sunlight) = 6 points

Subspecies (2/5)I probably should have had enough Charles Band-produced films last year to fill my quota for the next decade, but I decided to go throught the ENTIRE SUBSPECIES franchise this year because I guess I'm watching a LOT of vampire movies. This one was pretty boring, but it did have some cool shadow effects. Mostly melodramatic BS, though.. (90 min)

Points: 2 (Base) + 1 (vampires only come out at night) +1 (ancient tomb) = 4 points

Bloodstone: Subspecies 2 (3/5)
Much better than the first one. Kept hoping someone would die by sunlight... Alas, just more stabbing and beheading. At least it was watchable (107 min)
Points: 2 (Base) + 1 (vampires only come out at night) +1 (ancient tomb) =  4 points

Bloodlust: Subspecies 3 (3/5)

Keeps the storyline going. Good, not great. But I do like that the whole thing is one continous movie in a way. (83 min)

Points: 2 (Base) + ATB (Death by Sunlight) =  6 points

Subspecies 4: Bloodstorm (2.5/5)
A little more boring than the last two movies. But at least it was an ATB... lol (85 min)

Points: 2 (Base) + ATB (Death by Sunlight) =  6 points

The Vampire Journals (2/5)
Technically not a SUBSPECIES movie, but it was supposed to be. It's also really boring. But... Death by sunlight. lol (82 min)

Points: 2 (Base) + ATB (Death by Sunlight) =  6 points
The Fog - 2005 (1.5/5)
Boring, ridiculous, and missing everything that makes the original so great. Maybe if I was 10 when this came out, I'd like it. (100 min)
Points: 2 (Base) + 1 (phantom fog) + 1 (power outage) +1 (ghost piratyes only come at night) = 5 points
Demons (3.5/5)
Classic Italian splatter. Caught it in 35mm too, so that's awesome. It was even more fun seeing it with a rowdy audience. (88 min)
Points: 2 (Base) + 1 (ancient tomb) + 1 (bat flies out at someone) = 4 points
Near Dark (4.5/5)
An alomst perfect vampire movie. I love just about everything about it. Like a dirty vampire western. (94 min)
Points: 2 (Base) + ATB (Death by sunlight) = 6 points
Tales of Halloween (3/5)
I was hoping I'd love this. Instead, it's kind of uneven for me; though I think it works more than it doesn't. (92 min)
Points: 2 (Base) = 2 points

Watched all three films with the group for a total of 30 points

Darkness (2/5)

Not much of a fan of this one. I had been meaning to watch it, but this is the first time I've gotten around to it. I probably could've waited longer. (102 min)

The Hole (3.5/5)
Love me some Joe Dante. I'd seen this before, so I knew I liked it. Even so, it was better than I remembered. The best of the night, for sure. (92 min)

The Ghost and The Darkness (3/5)
It's like a slasher with lions. And I really don't care for Val Kilmer much these days. Probably the fault of that Dr Moreau documentary. Douglas is pretty badass, though. (109 min)

Total Points For Week Two

80.5 points
