The Madness 2015 - Darkness: Week Three Recap

We are now theree weeks into 2015's MADNESS. Almost there. For the previous weeks' recaps, you can GO HERE.

All of the below were watched over the past week... Scores (out of 5) for each title are included, along with points.

No Television this week

Assorted Movies

Innocent Blood (2.5/5)
John Landis made a mobster vs vampire film back in the early 90s. It's pretty decent, but far from being one of his best. I'd say that it could use a bit more humor, and the scares really aren't there at all. (112 min)
Points: 2 (Base) + ATB (Death by Sunlight) = 6 points

The Goonies (5/5)
Really glad this can be counted for this year's theme. I LOVE THIS MOVIE. Grew up watching it, and it's still as fun as ever. (114 min)
Points: 2 (Base) + ATB (Finale in a cave) = 6 points
Crimson Peak (3/5)
Much more a gothic romance than a horror movie. It's good, and I love Del Toro's visual style, but the pacing is off, the CGI can be distracting, and I don't buy Charlie Hunnam as an American doctor for a minute.  (119 min)
Points: 2 (Base) + 1 (Basement hauntings) =  3 points

Sunshine (3/5)
One of the few Danny Boyle movies I hadn't caught up with yet. It's pretty good, and I like that it turns into a horror film at the back half. (107 min)
Points: 2 (Base) + ATB (Death by Sunlight) =  6 points

From Dusk Till Dawn (4.5/5)
Nearly perfect. I hadn't seen this in years, and I think I like it more now. I LOVE the tonal shift during the last 30-40 minutes. (108 min)
Points: 2 (Base) + ATB (Death by Sunlight) =  6 points

From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money (2/5)
Vastly inferior DTV sequel. It's not awful, but it's not good. (88 min)
Points: 2 (Base) + ATB (Death by Sunlight) =  6 points
From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman's Daughter (3/5)
Still not as good as the original, but I had fun with the Western setting, and it's much more in keeping with the tone of the first film. (94 min)
Points: 2 (Base) + ATB (Death By Sunlight) = 6 points
Goosebumps (4/5)
Really fun take on the book series. Not a masterpiece, but the kind of movie you love to watch with your kids. (103 min)
Points: 2 (Base)  = 2 points
The Final Girls (4/5)
Super fun comedy-horror. Surprisingly touching. Like LAST ACTION HERO if it was set in a Slasher. (92 min)
Points: 2 (Base) = 2 points
Videodrome (4/5)
Sleazy, mind-fuck craziness from Cronenberg. Ahead of its time, for sure. (87 min)
Points: 2 (Base) = 2 points
Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension (3/5)
Not really a great movie, but the best use of 3D in a horror film since the MY BLOODY VALENTINE remake. The ATB might be arguable, but the portal is directly above the bed, and people willingly enter it knowing there are demons in there (88 min)
Points: 2 (Base) + ATB (Dimensional portal above bed, people enter knowing there are ghosts/demons in there) = 6 points
Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (4/5)
Love this movie. Saw it 35mm. (91 min)
Points: 2 (Base) = 2 points
Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (2/5)
One of my least favorite FRIDAY films, but it was part of the 35mm marathon. (92 min)
Points: 2 (Base) = 2 points
Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives (4/5)
Probably my favorite FRIDAY film. (86 min)
Points: 2 (Base) = 2 points

Tremors (4/5)
Super fun monster flick. (96 min)
Points: 2 (Base) = 2 points

Child's Play (5/5)
I still love this movie; even after last year's theme. lol. (87 min)
Points: 2 (Base) = 2 points

The Last Man On Earth (2.5/5)
Vincent Price vs weird vampires. (86 min)
Points: 2 (Base) +1 (vampires only attack at night) = 3 points

Killer Klowns From Outer Space (5/5)
One of the best Horror-Comedies ever made. Period. (88 min)
Points: 2 (Base) = 2 points

Total Points For Week Three

66 points
