Halloween Horror Movie Madness 2014 - Attack Of The Automatons: Week Two Recap

We are now into Week Two of Halloween Horror Movie Marathon Madness 2014 (for more on what it is, see my recap of Week 1). This week was a bit lighter, as I am currently in Canada for the Toronto After Dark Film Festival, which I am covering for The Liberal Dead, so I am spending most of my time in the movie theater or at the social events (aka Drinking At The Pub) in the evenings. Plus, a good deal of the movies don't fit with the Automaton theme of this year... But, there are definitely some great titles included, so I can't complain...

All of the below were watched over the past week... Scores (out of 5) for each title are included, along with points.

Assorted Movies

Doll Graveyard (2/5)
Because Charles Band is apparently fond of ripping off his own franchises... Some father gets pissed because his daughter is playing with dolls, so he beats her and forces her to bury them in the yard. Years later, a bunch of awful teenagers (who look like they are 30+ years) get attacked by the dolls while partying at the house. Not good, but a lot more tolerable than 9/10ths of the PUPPET MASTER movies.
Points: 2 (Base) + ATB (Dolls attack humans) = 6 points

DevilDolls (1/5)
Seriously? What the fuck, Charles Band? ANOTHER movie that is just clips from your previous movies? When will this madness end?! This one is just DOLL GRAVEYARD, DEMONIC TOYS, and RAGDOLL smooshed down into 30 min segments and then mixed together... Go watch the full films themselves, as they are infinitely better.
Points: 2 (Base) + ATB (Dolls attack humans) = 6 points

Blood Dolls (3/5)
Okay, so there is finally a Charles Band directed movie that I enjoyed... It's not "good" per se, but it is so fucking weird that I couldn't help but giggle at it. Midgets, people being turned into killer dolls, S&M Bondage, an all-female "rock" band in a cage, a dude with a shrunken head, and a guy in clown makeup... You have to actually watch it to believe it...
Points: 2 (Base) + ATB (Dolls attack humans) = 6 points

Waxwork (5/5)
1980s horror-comedy goodness. Lots of fun. If you haven't seen it, you are missing out...
Points: 2 (Base) + ATB (Statues/Mannequins play main role in nefarious plot and attack humans) = 6 points

Waxwork II: Lost In Time (3.5/5)
Not as good as the original, but a lot of fun. I like that this was an homage to the older Sci-Fi/Horror films of the 50s/60s.
Points: 2 (Base) + ATB (Statue/Mannequin hand murders people) = 6 points

The Guest (5/5)
Super fun mashup of a slasher and an action film. Highly recommended. One of the best films of 2014.
Points: 2 (Base) = 2 points

Toronto After Dark 2014

Housebound (4/5)
Very fun horror-comedy from New Zealand.
Points: 2 (Base) = 2 points

Suburban Gothic (4.5/5)
Hilarious ghost story about the spirit of a murdered girl that is haunting the suburban home of a weird young man who has recently moved back in with his parents.
Points: 2 (Base)  = 2 points

Hellmouth (2.5/5)
Graveyard groundskeeper finds himself sucked into an otherworldly realm where he must face a myriad of bizarre situations. It's okay.
Points: 2 (Base) =  2 points

ABCs Of Death 2 (3.5/5)
Corey Feldman + Horribly stupid versions of the Puppets and Toys = WTF did I just watch? The sad part is that it is better than just about all of the "legit" Puppet Master movies.
Points: 2 (Base) + ATB (Toys come to life and attack children) = 6 points

Zombeavers (3/5)
Zombie Beavers + Boobs + Bill Burr + Gore + Ridiculousness = Fun.
Points: 2 (Base) + 1 (Practical creature effects) = 3 points

Dead Snow 2 (4.5/5)
Nazi Zombies fight Russian Army Zombies and all sorts of hilarious gore and carnage ensues.
Points: 2 (Base) + 1 (Practical creature effects) = 3 points

Total Points For Week Two

50 points
