One of the movies that I've wanted to hit Hi-Def for years has been Stan Winston's sole directorial effort, PUMPKINHEAD, from 1988. MGM had first released the film to DVD back in the early 2000s on a barebones, fullscreen edition, and while they eventually had the good sense to re-release it as a widescreen Special Edition, I've always thought that PUMPKINHEAD deserved more love. It certainly deserved an HD upgrade; at least.
Flash forward to earlier this year, and Scream Factory made me squeal with joy by announcing that not only were they going to release the film on Blu-ray, but it would be one of their awesome Collector's Edition discs; with new artwork and new content... Since then, I've been waiting (im)patiently to find out exactly what would be included on the new disc. Well, today, we found out the specifics, and they are pretty damn cool!
The film, which hits shelves on September 9, 2014, will include the following Bonus Features (new features in RED):
- NEW - REMEMBERING THE MONSTER KID: A TRIBUTE TO STAN WINSTON featuring new interviews with actors Lance Henriksen and Brian Bremer, special effects artists Alec Gillis, Tom Woodruff Jr. and Shannon Shea
- NEW interviews with producer Richard Weinman and actors John D’Aquino and Matthew Hurley
- Audio Commentary by Co-screenwriter Gary Gerani and Creature & FX Creators Tom Woodruff, Jr. and Alec Gillis
- PUMPKINHEAD UNEARTHED (now in HD) – a documentary on the making of PUMPKINHEAD featuring Evolution of a Demon, The Cursed and the Damned, The Torture Soul of Ed Harley, Constructing Vengeance, Razorback Holler
- Featurette: Demonic Toys
- Behind-the-Scenes Footage
- Still Gallery
- Theatrical Trailer
The fact that Scream Factory went the extra mile to get us the HD version of the terrific PUMPKINHEAD UNEARTHED documentary (which was on the previous Special Edition DVD in Standard Definition) is pretty fantastic. That level of commitment to fans is what I love about the company. Well, that and their awesome acquisitions...
Details on the A/V presentation have not been released to my knowledge, but I would assume that the film will feature a 1080p AVC-Encoded transfer with a DTS-HD Master Audio track (hopefully with the original 2.0 track included).
